Staying connected while in BC
Keeping in touch with families and friends while
you are studying is important and no matter where you are in BC there
are many affordable and easy ways to stay connected.
Internet: Most schools will have computers
and internet for students to use so you can email your friends and family.
You can also get the internet at home using your home phone line or through
a high speed connection. High speed access is provided by the phone and
cable companies for a monthly fee. Internet cafes are also popular and
widely available in most places.
Telephones: Most houses have a phone
line and local calls are included as a flat rate in
a monthly bill. Long distance calls can be made from home phones
or by purchasing long distance phone cards. Phone cards are available
at many local convenience style stores and often provide the cheapest
long distance rates.
Cellular phones: Cell phones are extremely
popular and are widely available. There are several cellular networks
to pick from in BC including:Telus
Mobility, Rogers
AT&T, Bell
Mobility and Fido.
All services offer pay-as-you go plans so you only pay for the time you
use, or you can register for a monthly package. Cell phones use a digital
network, can be used in most locations in North America, and there are
a wide variety of different phones to choose from.
Mail and Courier services: Canada
Post is the mail service for BC and all of Canada and stamps can be purchased
at all post offices, some pharmacies and some local convenience stores.
If you want to send packages home you can use Canada Post or one of the
different courier services. For more information check out the following
